Recruitment Obstacles

“Recruiting in this day and age is a challenge, indeed. It's getting more so with leaner teams and leaner budgets – but with the same expected results,” says Nikoletta Bika.

Sylwia Green identifies the three main challenges recruiters encounter and shares the best solutions to tackle each of them.

  1. Talent shortage

Many companies experience problems with filling up positions, which leads to a loss of revenue. According to this extensive report by Korn Ferry, by 2030, more than 85 million jobs could be unfilled. And it’s not caused by automation or robots taking those jobs. It’s because there won’t be enough skilled people to take them.

    Solution

Change your hiring strategy, prioritize talent, hire internally, offer internships and apply the right hiring tools. Resumés and cover letters are not the best tools to predict a candidate’s fit for the position; try new ones such as case-based screening.

  2. Attracting potential employees

Talent shortage and the pandemic make it more challenging for many companies to convince people to choose your job offering over the others.

    Solution

Simple actions can make a difference when recruiting. Implement being open about wages, uplevel the benefits (offer more than a monthly bank transfer), and ensure a human-friendly recruitment process.

  3. Remote work

As the world becomes more and more digitalized, so does our work. Remote work is a new concept in the work environment, but the shift towards this mode has accelerated in the past 18 months because of the pandemic. Now working from home is no longer a preference – it’s a demand among employees to work remotely whenever possible.

    Solution

Remote work makes it possible for people from around the world to join your company, which is excellent for enriching your diversity and talent. Focus on searching for the right soft skills in your candidates, for example, someone independent, self-motivated, flexible, proactive. Also, good communication and synchronization between co-workers have to be assured.
